Coromandel

Part 2 of our trip! God I am horrible at keeping a blog...

I haven't written anything proper in English in a loooong time so I thought it would be about time I gave my non Finnish friends a chance to read my blog as well! (I've heard more than a few angry remarks that Finnish isn't the best language to try to comprehend through Google translate...)

Coromandel is probably one of the most beautiful places I've ever set foot on. We were going absolutely crazy with Jana as we were driving along the picturesque western coast of Coromandel! I was driving on the winding roads like a wannabe rally driver while she was trying to snap photos through the car window.

We also grew scarily fond of the Christmas trees that were blooming during our trip. And by Christmas trees I mean the ones below and not the poor fellas we chop down and place in our living rooms to get in the Christmas spirit.

Making our way to our destination Whitianga was painstakingly slow thanks to our rental car that clearly wasn't meant for going uphill. I'm still wondering how we ever made it out of Auckland with my navigation skills. The only time we went in the wrong direction was when I trusted Google maps more than my own eyes. And to be honest I think Jana's sense of direction might be even worse than mine........

Also finally our luck turned and we got to enjoy one (ONE! Imagine! One!) day of sunshine. And how did we spend it? By getting horribly sunburnt at the beach of course!

Next morning we headed for the famous Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove together with our new friend Albert! (Who might have been slightly better at reading maps than us.) As can be seen from the photo below the overly touristy Hot Water Beach was not so enjoyable with the shitty weather we had, once again, been blessed with.

Luckily Cathedral Cove was definitely worth the small walk there. Jana and I thought that the beach looked exactly like the one described in the book Lord of the Flies!

After spending the morning in the rain our plan was to enjoy some quiet time back at the hostel. That plan went pretty downhill though because our previously lovely and peaceful hostel had turned into a family gathering spot for some Asian clan during our sightseeing. Watching old vhs tapes can get boring really fast when you cannot hear anything that is being said in the movie.

I have absolutely nothing against asians but damn some of you people can be loud sometimes!

A few of you might already know that I am not the best morning person out there. That's why it was perfectly fine to spend the first half of the drive back to Auckland in complete silence. Only after a cup of coffee and some cake were we able to exhange a few words with Jana. Early mornings = Not our thing.

Dropping off our horrible rental Nissan was a bit of a hassle but in the end Jana was left at the airport to meet her family and I made my way to central Auckland. To be completely honest with you I found the city to be a bit boring. I know I didn't have enough time to explore all that it had to give (Also being tired & with a heavy backpack really didn't help) but I promise to give it another chance when I'm heading back there in February.

Seeing Wellington on Monday morning after my nightbus made me realize how much I actually love the capital. I was surprised by the way it felt like coming back home, walking through familiar Lambton Quay and catching a bus to Karori. Weird how your life can change in just four months. (I know I know, I sound like a cliche but I'm having a moment here so shush.)

Awesome trip, awesome people and awesome places. And thank you Jana! I have no idea how you tolerated me during this trip. You too are awesome.

Peace!

PS. Which do you guys prefer: English or Finnish? I have no opinion on the matter. Just don't get too upset with my typos. English is a funny language.
